The Herrera Strategy Story ~

Herrera Strategy was born in the midst of a global pandemic that shut the world down and created an unprecedented need for meaningful communication and connection.

Founded in 2020 by Andrew and Hannah Herrera, our certified minority business enterprise emerged as a public affairs agency with a singular mission: to connect change-makers with the audiences they need to create real, lasting impact.

Our Journey

Since our founding, we've been at the forefront of transformative communication strategies. Our first campaign was supporting the MPEA convention center authority on how to message through rolling closures and, eventually, reopening. Since then, we've helped a progressive Latino leader become the first Latino elected city-wide in Joliet, supported Warehouse Workers for Justice in connecting thousands of people to rental relief, passed the landmark Temp Worker Fairness and Safety Act, and won new Coal Ash remediation rules through our work with frontline communities.

Our work spans diverse domains, from health equity to environmental justice and labor policy to immigrant rights and the electoral campaigns to elect the leaders who most advance those issues.

Andrew Herrera

Andrew pairs his deep understanding of organizing and strategic communications with his strong network of relationships, built over ten years of electoral work, to deliver stakeholder engagement strategies and lobby on behalf of advocacy organizations around issues of worker, environmental, and racial justice.

He began his career working on the roll-out of the Affordable Care Act in Illinois, and later went on to develop and roll out national marketing campaigns for global brands, with a special focus on multicultural outreach. During that time, Andrew also served as a grassroots institution builder and organizer, building place based political organizations and mobilizing working families in support of progressive candidates up and down the ballot. This dual interest in communications and public affairs led him to the University of Chicago where he completed his Masters in Public Policy at the Harris School in 2020. He is currently participating in the Chicago United for Equity 2024 fellowship.

His unique background positions Herrera Strategy to be able to provide full service public policy campaign support: from ideation to power mapping, message development to media relations, brand design to website development, and coalition building to policymaker engagement.
